About The Position

Vancro is currently seeking an American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter for as needed support at Fairmont State University in West Virginia. ASL Interpreters shall provide expert sign language services within the secondary environment both in-person and remote. Performs as an ASL Interpreter for Fairmont State University. Provide the full spectrum of sign language services for students, staff, Faculty, and those visiting. Performs expert sign language interpretation of the English language. Skill in applying this knowledge to difficult and complex work assignments and to the development of new methods approaches, or procedures and possesses a thorough knowledge of and adherence to the NAD-RID Code of Professional Conduct.

Requirements

• Must be registered with WVRI.
• Hold an active national certification (e.g., RID, NAD).
• Bachelor's Degree (undergraduate degree).
• Minimum of three years of professional experience, with at least one year in a professional office environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide the full spectrum of sign language services for students, staff, faculty, and visitors.
• Interpret the English language into American Sign Language (ASL), Signed Exact English (SEE), Contact Sign, Close Vision, Sign Supported Speech, and tactile methods.
• Interpret for deaf/hard of hearing team members in various business operations including meetings, training programs, seminars, and presentations.
• Sign in situations requiring simultaneous, uninterrupted platform interpreting for high-level staff and dignitaries.
• Voice interpret spoken English responses by the client in various settings.
• Sign on subjects ranging from simple statements to complex terminology.
• Operate special telephonic communications equipment for deaf/hard of hearing individuals.
• Assist in resolving communication issues between deaf/hard of hearing persons and their supervisors or employees.
