About The Position

The Aircraft Mechanic (Part-Time) position at the Orange County Sheriff's Office is responsible for ensuring that agency aircraft are well maintained and functioning properly. This role requires a combination of technical skills, knowledge of aircraft systems, and the ability to work autonomously with limited supervision. The mechanic will perform inspections, repairs, and modifications on various aircraft, ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.

Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Fluent in verbal and written English.
  • U.S. Citizen or possess a current permanent resident card.
  • Clean criminal history; any arrest history will be individually evaluated.
  • No illegal drug usage within the last year.
  • Associate's degree (A.A. or A.S.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; and two (2) years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have Airframe and Powerplant License issued by the FAA.
  • Valid Florida driver's license and ability to complete agency sponsored Law Enforcement Vehicle Operations (LEVO) Training if driving agency vehicle.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and maintenance instructions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience maintaining and repairing Bell 206/407 Models and Cessna 172/182/206/208 Models.
  • FAA Inspection Authorization.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure agency aircraft are well maintained and functioning properly.
  • Operate test consoles, test equipment, and aircraft controls to determine system performance.
  • Participate in test flights to observe and collect information for maintenance purposes.
  • Interpret and analyze test results to diagnose malfunctions.
  • Adjust, replace, repair, inspect, and/or overhaul defective components.
  • Perform structural repairs, modifications, and painting on all aircraft.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of aircraft repair and maintenance procedures.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with team members.
