About The Position

The Advisor, Disaster Risk Management/Anticipatory Action (DRM/AA) at Save the Children will provide strategic guidance on disaster risk management and anticipatory action policies and practices. This role is crucial in supporting the organization's development and humanitarian efforts, ensuring that global DRM and AA priorities are integrated into programs worldwide. The advisor will also engage in business development, collaborating with various teams to identify funding opportunities and enhance the capacity to respond to disasters affecting vulnerable children and communities.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, plus at least 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Business development or proposal writing experience.
  • Strong data analysis and visualization skills.
  • Excellent strategic communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of anticipatory action and disaster risk management.
  • Experience with projects focused on food security, early warning, and disaster relief.
  • Track record of securing funding from donors for DRM/AA programming.
  • Experience in designing and facilitating emergency preparedness and capacity building initiatives.
  • Ability to convene experts and stakeholders for DRM and AA planning.
  • Good analytical skills and effective negotiation abilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with interpreting and visualizing qualitative and quantitative research findings.
  • Professional proficiency in French, Spanish, and/or Arabic.
  • Prior experience with USAID-funded programs.

Responsibilities

  • Finalize and implement a financing plan for DRM and AA programming, including donor engagement.
  • Provide technical input for the design of DRM and AA proposals and ensure inclusion in cross-sectoral proposals.
  • Engage with donors to assess interest in financing anticipatory action and explain SC's approach.
  • Ensure program design incorporates SC principles of localization, child-centered approaches, and child safeguarding.
  • Stay updated on trends in anticipatory action, early warning systems, and disaster risk reduction.
  • Provide expert advice to country and regional offices on AA program design and implementation.
  • Collaborate with external partners for technology use in early warning systems and risk financing.
  • Document and share DRM and AA best practices and lessons learned within the organization.
  • Support the inclusion of DRM and AA in SCUS strategies and contribute to a learning agenda.
  • Raise SC's profile in DRM and AA through thought leadership and representation in forums.
