About The Position

The Academic Advisor Intermediate position at the University of Michigan - Flint is designed to support a growing student population by providing comprehensive academic advising. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Two or more years of experience as an academic advisor or in a similar student-facing role, preferably at the collegiate level.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Suite, Adobe Acrobat, Google applications, web editing, and Zoom.
  • Comfortable presenting complex information in face-to-face and online formats.

  • Familiarity with academic advising software and tools.

Responsibilities

  • Create a welcoming environment for students to develop ownership of their educational progress.
  • Advise students on course selection, graduation requirements, and co-curricular opportunities.
  • Collaborate with students to create and update course schedules and degree-completion plans.
  • Assess individual student needs and refer them to appropriate university resources.
  • Initiate communication with newly admitted and continuing students for comprehensive advising.
  • Document all advising appointments in the university advising system.
  • Conduct new student orientation sessions.
  • Collaborate with university partners to enhance the college experience for students.
  • Represent the College of Innovation and Technology on campus committees.
  • Utilize technology and data management to support retention and outreach programs.
