Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc. (WJE) is seeking a project-manager-level Structural Engineer to join our dynamic and diverse team in the Los Angeles (Pasadena), California office. This role requires a problem-solving mindset and an entrepreneurial spirit, along with established expertise in structural engineering. The successful candidate will be responsible for technical project execution, which includes applying sound engineering judgment and a deep understanding of governing codes, design guidelines, and industry practices. The engineer will collaborate with interdisciplinary project teams across WJE as the structural engineering subject-matter expert (SME), leveraging their expertise for a variety of structural engineering projects. These projects may involve the investigation, design, analysis, and/or repair of new and existing structural materials and systems, loading conditions, and construction types. The engineer will prepare technically excellent client deliverables, provide high-quality reviews and oversight of work by others, and perform and train others in hands-on field work. In addition to technical project execution, the role includes project management responsibilities such as client development, project scoping, assembling and managing appropriate project teams, maintaining project schedules and budgets, and managing client expectations and deliverables. The engineer will also contribute to structural engineering practice and company-wide objectives by participating in recruitment, mentoring, and development of up-and-coming consultants. Collaboration with other practice leaders for in-house knowledge-sharing and training initiatives is also expected, along with enhancing WJE's profile through meaningful involvement in professional organizations, conferences, and technical committees. The ideal candidate will possess a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of California, with a Licensed Structural Engineer (SE) preferred. A Master's degree in civil/structural engineering or a related field is required, along with a minimum of eight years of relevant structural engineering industry experience, including technical and project management. Established expertise with various materials and systems, effective communication skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks while maintaining a high standard of excellence are essential for success in this role.
