About The Position

The School Counselor at IDEA Converse College Prep plays a crucial role in leading family engagement, social emotional learning programs, and coordinating mental health and counseling supports for students. This position is focused on ensuring that all staff build authentic relationships with students and families, driving student success through effective data management and intervention strategies. The counselor is responsible for creating a safe and supportive environment for students, facilitating their academic and social development, and ensuring that the school meets its goals for student retention and engagement.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in School Counseling, Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or a related field.
  • Valid TX School Counselor certification or counseling licensure (LMSW, LCSW, LCSW-S, LPC-A, LPC, LMFT-A, LMFT) required.
  • Previous experience in a school or school setting is preferred.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage student behavior and adapt to various situations in the school environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with data management and analysis in an educational setting.
  • Familiarity with social emotional learning (SEL) programs and practices.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the execution of the school vision for retaining all students by managing all stakeholders in family engagement and student persistence.
  • Provide individual/group counseling for at-risk students and refer them to specialized services as needed.
  • Plan and execute student and family engagement events that align with the school's culture and community needs.
  • Manage campus student persistence data to ensure accuracy and reporting, collaborating with the PEIMS team.
  • Conduct individual and group check-ins with students to address social-emotional issues and provide support.
  • Direct the implementation of state-mandated guidance lessons to develop life skills and resilience among students.
  • Partner with grade level teams to identify and coordinate interventions for at-risk students.
  • Lead professional development for staff to clarify roles in family engagement and student support.
  • Facilitate family communications and administer surveys to gather feedback from parents and students.
