The Sanitation Worker/Driver I position at the City of Madeira Beach is a full-time role under the supervision of the Sanitation Supervisor. This position is primarily responsible for the collection of residential and commercial trash, beach refuse, brush, and other debris. The worker will engage in various tasks that include providing information to residents as required, ensuring proper trash collection and disposal, recycling of metal, and clearing obstructions. The role may also involve operating heavy equipment, including driving the garbage packer, and requires the worker to attend work as scheduled. The Sanitation Worker/Driver I will dismount garbage trucks to collect garbage and remount trucks to ride to the next collection point. Responsibilities include emptying residential trash receptacles into the garbage packer by hand, carrying beach trash receptacles to the garbage packer, and clearing obstructions while picking up and disposing of refuse and debris by hand. The worker will also be responsible for loading and unloading metal debris for scrap, operating automated or semi-automated hoisting devices to raise refuse bins, and compressing collected refuse. Additional duties include picking up brush and tree trimmings, steam cleaning and sanitizing receptacles, and maintaining cleanliness in vehicles and the Public Works garage area. Communication is key in this role, as the worker will need to provide information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates through various means such as telephone, written form, email, or in person. The position may also require performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
