About The Position
The Safety Technician (Bilingual Spanish) position at Southwest Shipyard, LP is primarily responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing employee safety protocols within the workplace. This role is crucial in ensuring that all safety policies and company rules are enforced effectively. The Safety Technician will work closely with the Safety Manager to guarantee that employees perform their duties with minimal risk of personal injury and that they understand and comply with all federal, state, local, and company safety regulations. The technician will also be responsible for training employees in emergency situations, such as evacuations and safety procedures, and must complete Competent Person training within the first 90 days of employment. In addition to enforcing safety regulations, the Safety Technician will conduct regular inspections of the work environment, known as 'walk-the-yard', to ensure that all operations are being performed safely. This includes assisting supervisors and foremen with any safety issues that arise and ensuring compliance with OSHA rules and regulations. The technician will also be involved in reporting and investigating incidents, accidents, and injuries, as well as participating in employee training programs to keep personnel updated on safety rules and regulations. The role requires a proactive approach to safety, including the dissemination of company safety policies to employees and management, providing daily reports of yard activities that require attention, and supporting the confined space program. The technician will also administer first aid for minor injuries and must possess good judgment and initiative in their work. The position demands a thorough understanding of the company's Quality, Environmental, and Safety manual and procedures, ensuring that all employees observe and fulfill their safety responsibilities to maintain a safe workplace.
