The SEVIS Coordinator position at Morgan State University is a vital role within the Office of International Student and Faculty Services (OISFS) in the Division of International Affairs (DIA). This position serves as the primary point of support for international students, addressing a wide range of inquiries related to federal immigration regulations, university policies, non-immigrant employment, cultural adjustment, and personal and financial issues. As the Designated School Official (DSO), the SEVIS Coordinator is responsible for managing the immigration records of international students in compliance with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS). The role requires maintaining expert knowledge of federal immigration regulations and ensuring that both the students and the university adhere to these regulations. In the administration and compliance aspect, the SEVIS Coordinator will oversee the maintenance of immigration records in the student record system and the international student database. This includes managing alerts in the SEVIS system regarding regulatory changes and sharing relevant information with international students promptly. The Coordinator will also assist the Principal Designated School Official (PDSO) in preparing and filing necessary immigration-related documents to maintain the university's SEVIS Re-Certification status. The position also involves significant student advising and support responsibilities. The SEVIS Coordinator will work closely with other DSOs and the PDSO to prepare and file immigration-related documents such as I-20s, Optional Practical Training (OPT), Curricular Practical Training (CPT), and requests for reduced course loads. They will provide guidance to new and continuing international students during scheduled advising hours and through face-to-face or virtual appointments. Additionally, the Coordinator will manage pre-departure and post-arrival sessions for international students, ensuring a smooth transition to life in the U.S. and at Morgan State University. Furthermore, the SEVIS Coordinator will engage with various campus units to address issues related to international students and serve as a liaison between these students and different campus divisions. They will support ongoing international initiatives, including events like the annual International Reception and International Education Week programs, and contribute to cross-cultural training and workshops for the campus community. The role may also involve performing other duties as assigned by the Director of OISFS or the AVP for DIA.
