About The Position
The Principal Applied Scientist position at Amazon's Alexa Sensitive Content Intelligence (ASCI) team is a pivotal role focused on developing advanced technologies to detect and mitigate sensitive content across various languages and modalities. This position requires a deep understanding of machine learning, particularly in the realms of Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Computer Vision (CV). The ASCI team is dedicated to ensuring that customer interactions with Alexa are safe and trustworthy, minimizing negative surprises caused by sensitive content. This includes offensive language, age-inappropriate material, and politically or religiously polarizing content. The successful candidate will lead a team of exceptional scientists, driving the development of novel algorithms and modeling techniques that enhance the capabilities of AI, NLU, ML, and ASR technologies. In this role, you will be responsible for distilling informal customer requirements into clear problem definitions, navigating ambiguity, and balancing competing objectives. You will collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, and other scientists to build customer-facing experiences that leverage speech, language, and computer vision technologies. Your work will directly impact the quality of products and services offered by Alexa, making it essential to possess strong communication skills to influence key stakeholders effectively. As a Principal Applied Scientist, you will also mentor junior scientists, guiding their research and development efforts while helping to shape the team's roadmap. You will engage in hands-on research, running experiments to test scientific proposals aimed at improving sensitive content detection and mitigation strategies. This role is not only about technical expertise but also about fostering a collaborative environment where innovative solutions can thrive.
