About The Position

The Metals Materials Technician position at JTEKT Corporation is a critical role focused on performing routine metallurgical checks on bearing components. This position works closely with a metallurgist or principal investigator to ensure that the checks align with established bearing standards. The primary goal of these checks is to provide essential data that supports testing process changes, drives continuous improvement initiatives, facilitates product acceptance, and informs design changes. The technician will also be responsible for daily clerical tasks and data entry duties that are necessary for the smooth operation of the laboratory. In this role, the technician will prepare metallographic samples and evaluate the resulting microstructures, which is vital for understanding the material properties and performance of the bearings. The technician must be proficient in using technical photography equipment and procedures to document findings accurately. Additionally, the position requires performing mechanical testing as mandated by production or engineering teams, which includes hardness testing and tensile testing of metals or other materials as needed. The technician will also be responsible for collecting and recording data, which may involve designing spreadsheets, ensuring accurate data entry, and posting information on the web. Written documentation is another key aspect of the role, including the preparation of investigation reports that summarize findings and support decision-making processes.
