The Library Associate - Children's position at Mentor Public Library is a part-time role that involves performing paraprofessional library tasks within the public library system. The Library Associate will work closely with the public, assisting patrons in the selection, organization, and interpretation of library materials. In this role, the Library Associate will conduct educational training for patrons and patron groups, select and review library collections with supervisor oversight, and provide reader's advisory recommendations tailored to the age groups served by the department. The position also involves responding to patron complaints, dealing effectively with difficult patrons, and ensuring the implementation of official library policies. The Library Associate must be able to multitask in a fast-paced environment while remaining available for patron inquiries. The position requires planning, creating, and presenting programs for assigned age groups, both within the library and through outreach efforts. This includes giving book talks, writing book reviews, and preparing displays and bibliographies. The Library Associate will also assist patrons in using library computers and applications, maintain operational computers and photocopiers, and perform special projects as required. The role may involve shelving and clerical responsibilities as needed, and maintaining a neat and orderly work area is essential.
