The City of Chesapeake is seeking a dedicated and motivated individual for the position of Juvenile Services Specialist I. This role is crucial in supervising and supporting juveniles detained in a secure detention setting. The successful candidate will be responsible for directing the daily activities of residents, ensuring that programming is conducted in accordance with acceptable behavioral management principles. The position requires the ability to exercise independent judgment, particularly in crisis situations, and to maintain a safe and structured environment for the residents. Key responsibilities include maintaining a daily electronic log card, completing all required paperwork, and conducting individual and group counseling sessions with residents. The specialist will perform crisis intervention, develop and manage case management files, and transport residents to and from appointments. Additionally, the role involves planning and coordinating recreational activities, conducting daily room and unit audits, and assisting medical staff as needed. The specialist may also be required to physically restrain unruly residents to prevent self-injury and ensure the safety of others. The position operates within a 24-hour facility, and the selected candidate will primarily work the overnight shift from 11 PM to 9 AM, with the possibility of shift changes based on operational needs. Employees may also be expected to work beyond their scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs or city-wide emergencies.
