About The Position
This position is located in the Audiology/Speech Service (ASPS) at the Palm Desert Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) within the VA Loma Linda Health Care System, a size 1A complex medical facility. The Health Technician (Audiology) plays a crucial role in supporting the clinical programs in Audiology, working under the supervision of a GS-12 audiologist or above. The incumbent will be responsible for a variety of tasks that include providing patient care, assisting with diagnostic and treatment procedures, and ensuring proper patient education regarding hearing conservation. The technician will greet and escort patients, triage them based on the complexity of their needs, and assist in setting up for various audiological procedures such as vestibular and neurodiagnostic tests. In addition to direct patient care, the Health Technician will manage biologic checks and calibration of audiometric instruments, conduct employee hearing conservation education, and maintain records related to the hearing conservation program. The role also involves performing otoscopic screenings and pure-tone air conduction threshold testing, ensuring timely and accurate documentation of all patient interactions in the electronic medical records system. The technician will also manage office supplies, respond to patient inquiries, and maintain a clean and safe working environment by disinfecting equipment and work surfaces according to infection control policies. The work schedule for this position is full-time, Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, and telework is not available. The incumbent will be expected to participate in the seasonal influenza vaccination program and the COVID-19 vaccination program as required by the Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
