The Fiber Splicer is a critical role within Hotwire Communications, responsible for the installation and maintenance of fiber optic cable lines. This position involves working both underground and on utility poles, ensuring that new cable lines are installed correctly and that existing cables are maintained to the highest standards. The Fiber Splicer will perform evaluation tests and repairs on the fiber optic network, which is essential for maintaining service quality and reliability for customers. In this role, the Fiber Splicer will prep and splice fiber optic cables, locate problem areas, and perform necessary repairs. Proficiency with fusion splicing and fiber test equipment is required to ensure that all installations and repairs meet company compliance standards. The Fiber Splicer will also be responsible for installing and maintaining transmission and reception equipment for the Fiber to the Home (FTTH) network, as well as network systems for private lines. This includes determining solutions for any issues that may prevent the service from operating normally. The Fiber Splicer will initiate test and turn-up procedures in collaboration with System Engineers, collect and interpret engineering documentation, and support field maintenance teams, including IT and regional engineering teams. Proper documentation of network changes and upgrades is essential, as is troubleshooting issues with third-party providers. The Fiber Splicer will work within the engineering team to ensure that all connections are within required specifications and will participate in an on-call schedule rotation as needed. Other duties may be assigned as necessary to support the fiber network operations.
