About The Position
The Leland Tollett Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL) at the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture is seeking a Laboratory Director to oversee its operations and strategic direction. The VDL is a service unit committed to the highest standards of ethics, integrity, and social responsibility, functioning as a branch laboratory to the Arkansas Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory within the National Animal Health Laboratory Network (NAHLN). The facility, which opened in 2008, is equipped with advanced diagnostic tools and is primarily focused on serving the commercial poultry industry, performing approximately 270,000 serology assays and 17,000 microbiological and molecular assays annually. The mission of the VDL is to provide reliable and timely animal health diagnostics that support the well-being of poultry flocks and the overall health of the industry. As the Laboratory Director, you will be responsible for the overall administration and management of the laboratory, which includes overseeing laboratory operations, managing diagnostic services, and fostering industry collaboration. This role requires a strategic leader who can align the laboratory's goals with those of the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture. You will supervise a team of laboratory technicians and support staff, manage the laboratory budget, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Additionally, you will provide technical consultations to clients, collaborate with external stakeholders, and represent the VDL at industry events. The position also involves maintaining the laboratory's accreditation and regulatory compliance, planning for future laboratory needs, and providing education and training to laboratory staff. The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional leadership and management skills, strong interpersonal abilities, and a passion for animal health diagnostics. This role is critical in ensuring the VDL's success as a leading provider of animal health diagnostic services.
