The CSTEP Peer Tutor position is designed to provide academic instruction to students at Vaughn College, focusing specifically on the disciplines of Engineering and Flight. Peer Tutors are expected to engage in one-on-one and small group tutoring sessions, reinforcing the content of their respective subject areas. This role is crucial in supporting students' academic success and enhancing their understanding of complex topics. Peer Tutors will be responsible for conducting workshops, individual tutoring, and small group sessions, which may also include online tutoring through platforms like Zoom, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to direct tutoring responsibilities, Peer Tutors are required to log all interactions in the Starfish intervention system to track student progress and engagement. They must stay current with the subject matter by reviewing textbooks and other online materials relevant to Engineering and Flight. Tutors are expected to maintain a presence in the Academic Success Center or their designated Zoom room during their tutoring hours, ensuring they are available to assist students as needed. Administrative tasks are also a part of the role, including paperwork, mailings, and communication with supervisors regarding any issues or suggestions for process improvements. Regular attendance at tutor meetings and training sessions is mandatory, and tutors may also be tasked with hosting pre-exam workshops that focus on problem-solving and test preparation. Overall, the position requires a commitment to supporting fellow students and contributing to a collaborative learning environment.
