About The Position

Responsible for the safety and daily needs of the children in the unit and acts in accordance with all defined policies and procedures. The Youth Care Professional will be mainly assigned to work with medically fragile children.

Requirements

  • High School diploma accepted.
  • One year’s experience in childcare required.
  • Ability to work with all children (medically fragile, psychiatric, differently abled).
  • Experience as a home attendant is crucial.
  • Familiarity with the ORR population.
  • Must be able to use a computer and learn software programs.
  • Must be able to operate a fax, copier, scan, and other office equipment.
  • Must be able to speak, read and write fluently in the English language.
  • Must be able to write in the English language using correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc.
  • May frequently lift 0-25 lbs., occasionally lift 25-50 lbs., and rarely lift over 50 lbs.
  • May frequently push/pull 0-25 lbs. of force, occasionally push/pull 26-45 lbs. force, and rarely push/pull over 45 lbs.
  • Will be required to sit, stand and walk throughout the work day.
  • May occasionally stoop.
  • May occasionally kneel.
  • May occasionally crouch.
  • All mandated certifications must be taken.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record preferred.
  • Bilingual (Spanish –preferred but other languages are welcomed).

Responsibilities

  • Providing one-on-one daily care and supervision for medical, or psychiatrically fragile minors and tender aged children.
  • Administering and documenting medication in the medication log.
  • Escorting children to medical appointments.
  • Supervising children who are admitted in the hospital.
  • Providing coverage for Youth Specialists whenever it is required.
  • Overseeing and encouraging resident participation in group activities.
  • Documenting patient progress, immediately reporting any extreme changes in behavior.
  • Reporting any incidents that may affect the safety of a resident.
  • Maintaining a safe and healthy environment.
  • Responding appropriately to the individual and special needs of children.
  • Demonstrating group management and crisis intervention skills.
  • Representing and carrying out agency, department and unit policies and procedures.
  • Monitoring cleanliness and appearance of units.
  • Responding appropriately to fire alarms and fire drills.
  • Supervising recreational activities.
  • Completing log entries and incident reports accurately and regularly.
  • Attending and participating in all meetings as assigned.
  • Providing effective supervision of children.
  • Monitoring hygiene and health problems of residents.
  • Maintaining appropriate ratios.
  • Working cooperatively and being a good team player.
  • Completing all mandated ORR & Abbott House trainings on a timely basis.
  • Performing any other related duties as required.
