About the position

The Credit and Collections Department has an immediate opening for a Credit and Collections Analyst. This position involves extensive telephone communication with internal and external customers to resolve billings to achieve prompt payments. This position will actively pursue recovery of outstanding premium. This position is responsible for reviewing policy records to determine outstanding premium, to promote prompt payment, and policy retention. This position will exhaust every in-house avenue to collect outstanding premium before referring the account to an outside collection agency. The incumbent will effectively handle potential disputes, communicate with Regional Offices, Audit and Underwriting, Customer Service Center, Customer Assistance Program (CAP) and other functions as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively explain and substantiate bills and payroll
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships and uphold principles of integrity in the workplace
  • Provide excellent customer service in a timely manner and in stressful situations
  • Help in the retention of all State Fund policyholders
  • Follow the principles of State Fund's Equal Employment Opportunity guidelines
  • Maintain a safe working environment
  • Defend State Fund against fraudulent activities
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance and/or communication of availability during working hours
  • Ability to effectively communicate with professionalism, both verbal and written
  • Ability to negotiate
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Ability to achieve results according to objectives
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Word and Outlook

Requirements

  • Underwriting skills are desired
  • Experience in customer service as it relates to collecting outstanding obligations on accounts
  • Experience in reviewing or underwriting an application for insurance
