About The Position

UPMC is looking for a Wireless Engineer associate to join their team. This position will be ON-SITE. Description The Wireless Engineer - Associate daily tasks include review, organize, communicate, and record requests for wireless additions, deletions, and/or changes within the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMCHS), and/or affiliated businesses. Provide technical assistance to departmental personnel, clients, vendors and other parties as assigned to meet business requirements or provide continued network services. Create, manage, track and report the status of assigned project plans, using the specified Project Management software. Additional responsibilities and accountabilities include basic configuration of network security hardware and software, enforce security policies, and perform network compliance activities. The Wireless Engineer - Associate works closely with all UPMC departments and business units, ISD departments and/or groups, as required, to meet business objectives, resolve problems, provide technical assistance in accordance with assigned responsibilities, and when necessary, coordinates with other telecommunications resources in carrying out the assigned responsibilities. This position also interacts with vendors and suppliers.

Requirements

  • Typically has familiarity with wireless communications infrastructure design and support through education or practical experience.
  • Mastery of the essential basic knowledge base for an IT professional.
  • Ability to perform basic/standard IT procedures and protocols.
  • Complete on-going training on-the-job, through courses, self-study, certifications and/or advanced degrees to maintain and enhance technical and business capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Additionally, this position may be required to maintain a stand by status as part of a rotation within the team. This requires 24 hours per day, 7 days per week availability during the stand by period. The frequency varies based upon the number of colleagues in the rotation.
  • Apprise project manager of status, schedule variances, and outstanding issues.
  • Assist with wireless network sizing.
  • Manages HP Aruba and Cisco, wireless with both centralized and remote management.
  • Provide service to ISD client community, patients, families and visitors, while protecting the integrity and confidentiality of all data and information through physical and electronic measures.
  • Maintain electronic documentation, as defined by the Manager, Wireless communications, outlining wireless interconnection for all UPMC facilities, as approved by the Manager, Wireless Communications, and/or the Director, ISD Network Services.
  • Develop working knowledge of multiple communications protocols.
  • Provide on-call support (business hours) as established and in accordance with ISD Technical Services Department Policies and Procedures, Service Level Agreements, and any other documentation or directives, as determined by the Manager, Wireless Communications, and/or the Director, ISD Network Services.
  • Keeps abreast of trends and changing technologies in IT, wired and wireless Data Communications, Information Security, and Network Security.
  • Provide on-call support (non-business hours) as established and in accordance with ISD Technical Services Department Policies and Procedures, Service Level Agreements, and any other documentation or directives, as determined by the Manager, Wireless Communications, and/or the Director, ISD Network Services.
  • Attend ISD and related meetings, as required.
  • Record time spent on assignments (projects, initiatives, requests) in accordance with ISD and ISD Technical Services Department Policies and guidelines.
  • Plan, publish, maintain, and distribute technical documentation pertaining to UPMC Data Communications network including pictures, procedures, practices, and problem determination guidelines as requested or assigned by the Manager, Wireless Communications, and/or the Director,
  • Review all assigned UPMC network client specialized service requests, received through request notification systems (i.e Cherwell system, pages, electronic mail, etc.) responds to client requests, within service level, providing information as to service(s) and lead-time to meet objective. Coordinate with client in service delivery activities and all requirements to meet the request, keeping the client current on the status of the service request (i.e. phone call, email, etc.).
  • Coordinate and support installation of data communications network hardware including, but not limited to Access Points, Wireless Controllers, routers, switches, servers, personal computers, etc. as outlined and documented in assigned project(s) and/or initiative(s).
  • Provide support as required by ISD's Disaster Recovery Plan.
  • Comply with UPMC, ISD, and ISD Technical Services Department Policies and Procedures.
  • Assist with wireless network trouble-shooting.
