About the position

The Wind Technician role at Clearway Energy involves assisting in the maintenance of wind turbines, focusing on mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical components. The position aims to ensure safe and efficient turbine operations while providing opportunities for career progression through various technician levels. Technicians will work under the guidance of the Wind Site Manager and are expected to follow safety protocols, document maintenance activities, and assist in troubleshooting and repairs.

Responsibilities

  • Follow safety procedures and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Assist in the performance of wind turbine mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical component maintenance.
  • Document all work performed, parts used, and time spent using computer-based service reporting procedures.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and repair of SCADA communication systems.
  • Operate and maintain a service vehicle.
  • Maintain hand tools in good working order and well organized.
  • Work a flexible on-call schedule when needed, including weeknights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Help in all areas of site operations as directed by Site Lead and Site Manager with minimal supervision.
  • Troubleshoot complicated mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems on variable pitch, variable speed wind turbines (for Level II & III).
  • Assist in the training and development of lower-level operation and maintenance personnel (for Level II & III).
  • Perform all mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical component maintenance, repair, and replacement to correct malfunctions (for Level II & III).
  • Read and understand electrical schematics and wiring diagrams (for Level II & III).
  • Use electrical test equipment to assist in troubleshooting and testing (for Level II & III).
  • Lead maintenance and troubleshooting crews as necessary (for Level II & III).
  • Safely perform LOTO and mentor lower-level technicians in LOTO (for Level II & III).
  • Perform balance of plant and switchyard work as required (for Level II & III).

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED required or willing to obtain within the first 6 months of employment (Level I).
  • Able to climb towers unassisted up to 300 feet and work safely in confined spaces (Level I).
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and good driving record (Level I).
  • Possess demonstrable mechanical aptitude and basic electrical knowledge (Level I).
  • Able to work with electrical wires and differentiate between color-coded wires (Level I).
  • Able to safely work in a wide range of adverse climates and environments (Level I).
  • Able to travel as required (Level I).
  • Knowledge of and the ability to use various hand tools (Level I).
  • Ability to read schematics and wiring diagrams is preferred (Level I).
  • Able to communicate verbally and in writing and work without direct supervision (Level I).
  • Able to create, edit or modify Microsoft Word and Excel documents (Level I).
  • Able to meet the requirements of Clearway Energy Group's Qualified Electrical Worker program (Level I).
  • An Associate's degree (electrical or technical) and six months turbine experience, or a high school diploma/GED and one-year wind turbine experience (Level II).
  • Have an in-depth understanding of the different components of the wind turbine (Level II).
  • An Associate's degree (electrical or technical) and two years turbine experience, or a high school diploma/GED and three-year wind turbine experience (Level III).

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience in SAP is preferred.
