About the position

The CBS News Streaming Network is seeking a Freelance WGA Assignment Editor to work in its New York City Broadcast Center. This role involves managing the assignment desk, coordinating news coverage, and producing content for a 24-hour digital streaming news network.

Responsibilities

  • Cover the CBS News Streaming Network assignment desk, including answering phones.
  • Build, prioritize, and coordinate news coverage in a fast-paced environment.
  • Monitor news wire services and social media for breaking news and key developments.
  • Build videos and graphics, optimizing article share language from CBSNews.com.
  • Produce social content aligned with the CBS News brand.
  • Write and distribute a daily division-wide communication outlining key events and happenings.
  • Plan coverage for future events in collaboration with executive producers and other CBS news entities.
  • Make editorial coverage decisions and execute coverage with bureau chiefs, field producers, and reporters.
  • Identify and secure strong witnesses and expert guests, including clearing social media elements.
  • Coordinate the ingest of remote feeds and serve as a logistical contact for CBS News Streaming Network.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of experience at a larger market local, cable division, or network newsroom.
  • Minimum 2 years working as an assignment desk editor.
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating coverage for live television.
  • Available for early morning, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to multi-task and adapt to a challenging, fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with ENPS/iNEWS and remote productions.
