About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Welding Shop Foreman to oversee daily operations and manage the complete flow of jobs through our fabrication shop. This role is responsible for ensuring that projects move efficiently from initial material processing (laser, cutting, etc.) through fabrication, welding, finishing, painting, and final shipment—while meeting deadlines and maintaining quality standards. The Foreman serves as the primary point of coordination on the shop floor, balancing production scheduling, workforce management, and job progress tracking.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in a welding/fabrication shop environment.
  • Strong knowledge of welding processes (MIG, TIG, Stick).
  • Strong knowledge of fabrication practices and blueprint reading.
  • Ability to manage multiple jobs simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Hands-on mechanical aptitude.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous supervisory or foreman experience preferred.
  • Experience managing full job flow from raw material to finished product.
  • Familiarity with production scheduling systems or ERP/shop management software.
  • Forklift and/or crane operation experience (if applicable).

Responsibilities

  • Take full ownership of jobs once they are released into the shop system.
  • Plan and manage workflow from material processing (laser, plasma, saw cutting, etc.), fabrication and welding, grinding, finishing, and paint, to final inspection and shipping.
  • Ensure all jobs move efficiently through each stage without bottlenecks.
  • Monitor job progress daily and adjust priorities to meet due dates.
  • Coordinate with office/project management to maintain accurate timelines and status updates.
  • Create and manage daily/weekly production schedules.
  • Assign work to welders, fabricators, and shop personnel based on skill level, workload, and job priority.
  • Ensure proper sequencing of work to maximize efficiency and reduce downtime.
  • Communicate clear instructions and expectations to the team at the start of each shift.
  • Supervise all shop employees and temporary workers.
  • Maintain a productive, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Provide hands-on support and problem-solving as needed.
  • Train and mentor employees to improve skill levels and performance.
  • Address performance issues and coordinate with management as needed.
  • Ensure all work meets company quality standards and customer specifications.
  • Ensure materials are available and staged appropriately for upcoming jobs.
  • Coordinate with purchasing or inventory teams if shortages arise.
  • Oversee proper use and maintenance of equipment and tools.
  • Identify opportunities to improve workflow, efficiency, and shop processes.
  • Enforce all shop safety procedures and policies.
  • Conduct regular safety checks and ensure proper PPE usage.
  • Promote a culture of safety awareness and accountability.
