About the position

The Welder 1 position is a journey-level role within the Nevada Department of Transportation, responsible for planning, laying out, and executing welding projects to fabricate, repair, and maintain various metal components and equipment. This role is crucial for ensuring the operational efficiency and safety of the NDOT's equipment fleet, which includes dump trucks, plows, and other machinery used for roadway maintenance and emergency response. The position is located in Tonopah and may lead to advancement to the Welder 2 position based on performance and qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Plan and layout welding projects.
• Join metal components using gas welding, arc welding, soldering, and brazing processes.
• Perform maintenance and preventative welding on a variety of equipment and fixtures.
• Repair tractors, forklifts, desks, gates, fencing, doors, and athletics equipment.
• Fabricate items such as trailers, storage sheds, and duct work for air conditioning systems.
• Make equipment repairs, modifications, and adaptations using various welding techniques.
• Utilize problem-solving skills for complex layout and fabrication of welded equipment components.

Requirements

• Completion of an approved welding apprenticeship training program.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience in welding.

Nice-to-haves

• Welding certification issued by the American Welding Society (for specialty welders).
• Ability to furnish personal welding tools.
