Role description: Arcadis is looking for a Waterfront Structural Engineer Intern to join our Climate Adaptation Practice in our New York City or White Plains Office. Climate Adaptation practice focuses on delivering innovative and transformative solutions to address the challenges posed by climate change and coastal hazards while improving quality of life. We work on a diverse range of projects that include designing sustainable stormwater management systems, enhancing flood defenses, and developing adaptive strategies for coastal and inland communities and waterways. Our multidisciplinary teams are dedicated to improving the resilience of coastal and inland environments through cutting-edge engineering and strategic planning. As a Waterfront Structural Engineer Intern, you will use your experience in climate resilience to design and/or rehabilitate structures for coastal resilience and climate adaptation projects across the United States. Additional responsibilities include:

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, and/or Coastal Engineering.
  • Experience in engineering software relative to area of expertise.
  • AutoCAD and/or GIS experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Working Towards Engineering in Training (EIT) Certification.
  • Completed coursework related to geotechnical engineering, concrete and/or steel design.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in the design of waterfront structures, flood protection and nature-based solutions.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams on water resources and resiliency projects.
  • Preparing technical reports.
  • Assisting to prepare design drawings and calculation packages to implement coastal resiliency in projects.
  • Assisting to evaluate and implement sustainable stormwater management and flood control solutions.
  • Traveling (up to 10%) for project site visits, client meetings, planning, or overseeing construction activities, depending on project needs.
  • The ideal candidate will possess effective written and verbal communications and interpersonal skills, both in-person and virtually.
