About the position

The Waterfront Lead at Camp River Ranch is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all waterfront programming and activities, ensuring safety and educational value for guests. This seasonal position involves supervising lifeguards and boating specialists, managing schedules, and performing skill verifications. The role requires active participation in lifeguarding during swim times and boating activities, with a focus on creating a safe and enjoyable environment for campers and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate all phases of waterfront programming and activities including swimming, kayaking, and canoeing.
  • Administer the waterfront program following American Red Cross and ACA standards.
  • Maintain waterfront facilities, equipment, and supplies in working order.
  • Keep accurate inventory records and manage supply orders and repairs.
  • Foster effective work relationships with staff and campers.
  • Exhibit mature decision-making and responsibility at all times.
  • Perform rescues of distressed swimmers and capsized watercraft as needed.
  • Observe and assess camper and staff behavior, enforcing safety regulations and emergency procedures.
  • Complete necessary paperwork including incident reports and weekly schedules.
  • Assume additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Previous experience as a trained lifeguard supervising swimmers and boaters in a similar environment within the past 2 years.
  • American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguard certification or willingness to obtain.
  • GSWW Small Craft Safety qualified in Canoeing and Kayaking or ability/willingness to obtain qualification.

Nice-to-haves

  • At least one summer managing waterfront programming and/or staff in a camp setting.
  • 21+ years old.
  • Previous experience working in Girl Scout and/or camp settings.
  • Comfort with various camp activities including outdoor cooking and fire building.
  • Valid Driver's license for at least 5 years with a clean driving record.
