About the position

Freese and Nichols is seeking a Water and Wastewater Transmission & Utilities Project Engineer/Manager to join our Raleigh, NC team. The role involves preparing design calculations, design drawings, and specifications necessary for the most economical method of construction, as well as sealing drawings and reports as required. The engineer/manager will perform independent studies, prepare reports of results and conclusions, and direct other engineers and technicians on assigned tasks, reviewing and evaluating their results. Presenting and delivering final reports to clients is also a key responsibility. The position requires maintaining and utilizing a working knowledge of accepted engineering design standards and practices to meet client needs and conform to firm standards. Coordination with drafting personnel, technicians, and other engineers on technical matters pertinent to project assignments is essential. The engineer/manager will work towards keeping current tasks within schedule and budget, provide input and coordination with other departments, and secure preliminary equipment costs for reviews. Investigating new methods and implementing new ideas or procedures that will benefit the firm and its clients is also expected. Keeping project teams informed on project status and communicating effectively on progress, next steps, and coordination requirements is crucial. The engineer/manager will serve as Project Manager for projects that primarily require work within their own group but may also require coordination with other groups and the client.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience in engineering requiring independent evaluation and application of standard techniques.
  • B.S. degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or relevant field required.
  • North Carolina Professional Engineer Registration.
  • Master's degree may substitute for 1 year of experience.
  • Familiarity with Civil3D is preferred.
