Water Safety Instructor [14/53/19]

About the position

Under minimal supervision, the Water Safety Instructor (WSI) is responsible for the health and safety of all class participants, ensuring that class equipment is ready and available for use, lesson plans are filled out, and ensuring all hazards are removed before the beginning of their class.

Responsibilities

• Ensures the safety of class participants, prepares daily lesson plans, and participates in practice teaches.
• Responsible for skills assessments of class participants to ensure participants are placed in the appropriate levels.
• Responsible for conversing with parents about their child's performance and suggest areas of improvement with their skills.
• Responsible for being friendly, helpful, and cheerful to all pool patrons and fellow employees in the performance of duties.
• Respects and follows the 'chain of command', attends all mandatory in-service training(s) and maintains emotional control under stress.
• Maintains an acceptable appearance at all times, with regard to required apparel and personal hygiene.
• Responsible for maintaining confidentiality and maintaining emotional control under stress.
• Demonstrates patience and flexibility in changing job demands and when interacting with employees, visitors, and the public.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Must be mentally and physically fit.
• Must be a certified American Red Cross Instructor (WSI).
• Prior competitive swimming experience is desired but not required.
• Must have a genuine interest in teaching swimming and all water activities and maintain regular and consistent attendance.
