About the position

Neel-Schaffer is seeking applications from qualified applicants for the position of Water Resources Engineer to join our growing discipline. This role can be based in one of our Tennessee offices - Nashville, Murfreesboro, or Chattanooga. The successful candidate will be a driven professional eager to advance their career with strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. You will be a part of Neel-Schaffer's Regional Water Resources Team, collaborating on diverse projects in Water Resources, Hydrology/Hydraulics and MS4.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate on various types of drainage, flood control, bridge hydraulic studies/designs, and bridge scour analyses.
  • Conduct storm water management studies and basin master plans.
  • Design erosion and sediment control measures and assist with water quality permitting.
  • Support MS4 Program compliance for local TN cities.
  • Assist with modeling, design, permitting, and construction efforts for drainage, flood control, and storm water infrastructure projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related degree(s).
  • Professional Engineer in the state of Tennessee with the ability to become licensed in other states in the Southeast US.
  • 3 to 10+ years of experience with technical work in Water Resources, Hydrology, Hydraulics, Water Quality, and MS4s Program Compliance.
  • Strong leadership skills, verbal and written communication skills, analytical skills, and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to plan and conceptualize.
  • Knowledge of latest hydrologic and hydraulic computer modeling programs, including GIS-based applications.
  • Experience with HEC-RAS 1D/2D, SMS, EPA-SWMM/PCSWMM 1D/2D, HEC-HMS, HydraFlow, HydroCAD, StormCAD, etc.
  • Working knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Microstation (and/or GEOPAK Drainage/Open Roads Designer), AutoCAD (and/or Civil 3D), and ArcGIS.
  • Knowledge of National Pollution Discharge Elimination Systems (NPDES) permitting.
  • Familiarity with stormwater Best Management Practices, design and implementation of Green Infrastructure and Low Impact Development practices, and Erosion and Sediment Control design.
