About the position

The Water Plant Operator is responsible for the technical operation and maintenance of water treatment plants and auxiliary facilities. This role involves operating water pumping and treatment systems safely and efficiently, while also working in a lead capacity to assist in training other operation and maintenance personnel. The position requires working assigned rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays, and may involve on-call duties.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain water treatment plant and auxiliary facilities.
• Ensure safe and efficient operation of water pumping and treatment systems.
• Assist in training operation and maintenance personnel.
• Perform routine mechanical and/or electrical repairs.
• Conduct routine laboratory tests and handle chemicals safely.
• Accurately record data and prepare clear reports.
• Promote safety practices in the workplace.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Valid Florida driver's license.
• Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Drinking Water Plant Operator Class 'C' Certification.
• Knowledge of principles and practices of water treatment operation and maintenance.
• Skilled in operating and maintaining water treatment plant equipment.
• Ability to perform heavy manual work in all weather conditions.
• Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Office.

Nice-to-haves

• Ability to obtain 'B' and 'A' certifications in accordance with FDEP certification program guidelines.
