About the position

The Water Plant Operator C position in North Chicago involves performing semi-skilled and skilled tasks related to the operation, maintenance, and oversight of the City's Water Intake and Treatment Plant. The role requires operational oversight of systems and equipment used in the production of potable water, utilizing computer applications such as SCADA, and adhering to AWWA Standards and Standard Operating Procedures. The operator is responsible for ensuring the availability and functionality of equipment and supplies, conducting water sample testing, and maintaining effective communication with city employees and the public.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain the water treatment plant systems and equipment.
• Perform water sample testing and record results accurately.
• Conduct scheduled inspection rounds of the water plant.
• Ensure all equipment and supplies are available and in working order at the beginning of the shift.
• Take corrective actions for any deficiencies or abnormalities encountered during operations.
• Assist with general maintenance and housekeeping tasks at the water plant.
• Provide technical communications regarding water operations as needed.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Knowledge of water treatment and distribution processes.
• Experience with Microsoft Office and SCADA systems.
• Ability to obtain a Class C or D Illinois Water Operator's license within 6 months of hire.
• Physical ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 lbs.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in mechanical and operational knowledge of water treatment plant equipment.
• Familiarity with water chemistry and fluid formulas.
