About the position

The Water Maintenance Superintendent is responsible for the overall management and daily coordination of the South County Operations and Maintenance Division of the Monterey County Water Resources Agency. This role includes overseeing facilities, infrastructure, and equipment operations and maintenance, ensuring compliance with laws and safety regulations, and managing personnel. The position plays a crucial role in maintaining water resources and flood control in Monterey County.

Responsibilities

• Manage the maintenance and repairs of facility infrastructure and equipment, prioritizing work projects and estimating required materials.
• Plan, organize, coordinate, and manage Water Maintenance crews in the operation and maintenance of large earth-filled dams and related flood-control facilities.
• Oversee personnel management including selection, training, supervision, and performance management.
• Implement goals, policies, and procedures to ensure safety and environmental compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
• Conduct staff meetings and training sessions to discuss work progress and strategies.
• Participate in complex projects requiring specialized maintenance work, particularly those involving certification and licensure.
• Utilize specialized knowledge in vegetation management and monitor herbicide application.
• Review and respond to service maintenance requests in the area of responsibility.

Requirements

• Five years of experience in facilities and field infrastructure maintenance related to water distribution.
• Three years of increasingly responsible supervisory experience.
• Valid California Class 'A' Driver's License.
• Qualified Applicator's Certificate in Vegetation Management.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with computer applications related to maintenance operations.
