About the position

Houlihan Lokey, Inc. is seeking a Vice President or Senior Vice President for its Portfolio Valuation and Fund Advisory (PV) practice, based in the Dallas or Houston office. This role involves executing client engagements and contributing to the growth of the PV practice. The successful candidate will be an integral part of engagement teams, which can range from two to ten members, and will be responsible for leading portfolio valuation teams that provide valuations of illiquid debt and equity securities for hedge funds, private equity funds, and business development companies. The position requires a strong focus on business development and cross-selling other financial advisory services offered by Houlihan Lokey.

Responsibilities

  • Leading FVA portfolio valuation teams, providing valuations of illiquid debt and equity securities held by hedge funds, private equity funds, and business development companies.
  • Leading business and financial due diligence sessions with clients.
  • Providing leadership and guidance towards valuing companies, businesses, and securities.
  • Directing the efforts of Associates and Financial Analysts and reviewing their work product to ensure accuracy and thoroughness.
  • Reviewing published financial information across various industries, including the energy sector.
  • Reviewing third-party and in-house oil and gas reserves reports and understanding relevant energy industry metrics.
  • Presenting valuation analyses and conclusions internally and externally.
  • Managing client deliverables and ensuring timely completion of projects.
  • Assisting in building and reviewing complex financial models for specific securities or transaction structures.
  • Assisting in quality control, execution, and industry consultation across the financial advisory services platform.
  • Creative content development and collaboration across service lines.
  • Leading internal discussions of key takeaways from quarterly engagements and preparing summaries for circulation.
  • Assisting in the preparation of quarterly energy market updates.
  • Coordinating with internal administrative support teams for compliance and engagement close-out procedures.
  • Preparing fee proposals, confidentiality agreements, engagement letters, and coordinating with clients and the legal department.
  • Pitching engagements and leading business development initiatives.
  • Building relationships and maintaining direct contact with current and prospective clients.

Requirements

  • A minimum of six years of experience in financial services for Vice Presidents and a minimum of eight years for Senior Vice Presidents.
  • Prior equity and/or debt valuation or related experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Advanced accounting, finance, financial modeling, and analytical abilities.
  • Demonstrated experience managing Analysts/Associates or other personnel.
  • Entrepreneurial attitude with a desire to support a growing practice.
  • Strong command of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and common database systems.
  • Highly motivated with an exceptional work ethic.

Nice-to-haves

  • Big Four valuation or independent valuation consultants experience.
  • Master's degree or progress towards an advanced degree.
  • CFA designation.
