About the position

OneMain Financial is seeking a Vice President, Director serving as the Principal Engineer for DevOps. As OneMain expands its market verticals, a multi-product strategy is evolving to penetrate markets through compelling customer engagement. Correspondingly, teams deliver products across a variety of platforms and technologies. Our products span AWS, IBM iSeries and zSeries (for our core lending systems), and OpenShift on-prem as part of our hybrid strategy. With both disparate technology delivery and varying regulatory requirements, OneMain's environment is both complex and evolving, supporting a broadening multi-product, multi-market strategy. At OneMain, DevOps is organization-wide and seeks to rationalize commonality. Its maturity is demonstrated by achieving commonality, reproducibility, self-service and automation - these are fundamental principles to the DevOps platform. DevOps has ~40 people, spanning projects and platforms, and is on the journey to meet the above objectives. Along with the head of DevOps, the Principal Engineer for DevOps will lead OneMain's delivery organization toward these objectives. The leader will pursue a cloud-first strategy, seeking harmonization across pipelines and ecosystems, while justifying unique solutions where commonality cannot adequately cover functional or nonfunctional requirements. The leader will partner across teams, with other engineering leadership and DevOps engineers, identifying and working toward target states. The span of domains will include the DevOps architecture and pipelines, release engineering, site reliability engineering and extending the cloud back into the data center.

  • Evolve release engineering at OneMain, advancing identifiable, reproduceable, and consistent practices which matures the ability to build, track, and consistently deliver complex cross-cutting products.
  • Assess and recommend environment strategies both in the cloud and on the ground that effectively accelerate predictable delivery and reduce cycle time.
  • Develop architectural prototypes to wring out risk from new solutions.
  • Produce artifacts (e.g. architecture logical and physical models, standards, and archetypes) that support the implementation of the DevOps strategy and work with product teams to ensure alignment with enterprise standards.
