About the position

Girl Scouts of Oregon and Southwest Washington seeks a customer-service-oriented Volunteer Support Specialist who shares our vision of helping Girl Scouts change the world. As the Volunteer Support (VS) Specialists, you'll support and empower volunteers to be active and engaged members, providing a quality and consistent experience for Girl Scouts in their communities. VS Specialists provide volunteers with tools, resources, and recognition, fostering a culture of inclusivity and community. You'll manage and supervise volunteers and actively connect with first-year troop leaders.

Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer service and support to volunteers, including volunteer empowerment, support, and recognition to drive retention.
  • Support troop volunteers through the full cycle of their volunteer experience, from their first year as a new leader through progression to renewal.
  • Support and manage service team volunteers, including recruiting, selecting, appointing, training, and evaluating them in assigned regions.
  • Utilize the council's customer relationship management (CRM) system per council policies and procedures.
  • Provide volunteers with resources to implement the Girl Scouts Leadership Experience (GSLE) and deliver on the Girl Scouts mission.
  • Support service teams with regional year-planning and goal development; track progress to goals; lead year-end evaluation.
  • Implement annual membership renewal strategies, attaining goals for membership renewal in assigned regions.
  • Support council recruitment efforts of new adults and girls, focused in late summer/fall.
  • Support developing, applying, and interpreting policies and procedures that ensure a high-quality volunteer and youth Girl Scout experience.
  • Work to continually improve volunteer engagement, streamline processes, and remove participation barriers.
  • Mediate conflicts and support volunteers to maintain a positive and inclusive environment.
  • Represent Girl Scouts in the community, building relationships and advocating for volunteer priorities.
  • Continuously build organizational knowledge and skills by participating in training, meetings, webinars, workshops, and independent learning.
  • Actively promote a culture of philanthropy by educating and encouraging volunteers to understand council funding needs.
  • Support timely and effective communication between council staff and service units.
  • Support and collaborate with other departments and participate in council strategic initiatives.

Requirements

  • Five (5) years of total relevant education and experience, including volunteer management or customer service.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and professionally.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Effectively works with people of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
  • Highly proficient in planning and managing individual calendar.
  • Conflict mediation and management.
  • Adept at collaborating and building partnerships.
  • Comfortable leading small group discussions/meetings and one-on-ones.
  • Comfortable speaking in front of large groups.
  • Intermediate computer and technological proficiency, including Microsoft 365.
  • Thoughtful and tactful under pressure.
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel to meetings and events across Oregon and Southwest Washington.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual English/Spanish.
  • Experience with customer relationship management (CRM) systems like Salesforce.
