About The Position

The Viticulture Intern supports the Grower Relations, Vineyard, and Winemaking teams throughout the growing season and harvest. Reporting to the Grower Relations Manager, this role is responsible for grape maturity sampling and processing, vineyard scouting, crop estimation, and vineyard data collection and entry, while gaining hands-on exposure to vineyard and winery harvest operations. This position requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in outdoor vineyard environments under varying weather conditions. Flexible hours, overtime, and occasional night or weekend work may be required during peak harvest periods.

  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational, communication, and time management skills
  • Skilled in reading maps and following directions to navigate vineyard locations efficiently
  • Comfortable working early mornings, weekends, overtime, and flexible hours during harvest
  • Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions and on uneven or sloped terrain for extended periods
  • Safely operate and maintain company vehicles, materials, and basic agricultural equipment
  • Ability to lift, carry, bend, and perform repetitive physical tasks up to 50 lbs
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record, required
  • Working fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English
  • Basic computer proficiency including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook

Nice To Haves

  • Basic knowledge of vineyard operations, vine anatomy, and grape maturity sampling is a plus
  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Viticulture, Agriculture, Plant Science, Enology, or a related field, preferred

Responsibilities

  • Collect grape berry and cluster samples to monitor vine maturity and support harvest timing decisions, including processing samples and basic lab analysis (Brix, pH, TA).
  • Conduct vineyard scouting for pests, diseases, vine health, phenology, irrigation performance, and overall vineyard conditions.
  • Assist with crop estimation activities including cluster counts, cluster weights, yield forecasting, and vineyard data collection.
  • Perform soil, nutrition, virus, and vine water status sampling and assist with sustainability initiatives and field trials as assigned.
  • Accurately record, organize, and enter vineyard and harvest data to support operational and production decisions.
  • Support harvest operations as needed, including sample delivery, harvest logistics, crush pad assistance, and coordination with vineyard and winery teams.
  • Travel regularly to vineyard sites and maintain a professional working relationship with growers, vendors, and team members.
  • Safely operate vehicles, ATVs, forklifts, and other assigned equipment in accordance with company safety policies.
  • Assist with general vineyard and Grower Relations activities and perform additional duties as assigned.
