About the position

The Visual Information Specialist (Biomedical) position at the Department of Health and Human Services involves preparing and producing biomedical research-support art files using various software applications. The role requires expertise in graphic design and visual communication, particularly with Adobe Creative Suite. The specialist will coordinate projects, advise on technical aspects of visual media, and produce a variety of materials for biomedical research purposes.

Responsibilities

• Prepare biomedical research-support art files from multiple source applications including Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office.
• Accurately scope projects and coordinate assets and critical tasks, making detailed plans to accomplish goals.
• Advise on the technical advantages and disadvantages of various forms, styles, media, and methods of reproduction.
• Manually assemble, cut, mount, collate, and produce products such as framed scientific imagery, photography, certificates, brochures, booklets, scientific posters, and conference materials.
• Operate and troubleshoot imaging software, hardware, and machinery including large-format printers and laminators.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship or proof of being a U.S. National.
• At least one year of qualifying experience equivalent to the GS-7 level in the Federal service, or a master's degree in a related field, or a combination of education and experience.
• Experience in creating concepts, developing designs, and producing biomedical research graphic and signage artwork.
• Proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in planning original visual treatments for biomedical research publications or exhibits.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and coordinate work activities with others.
