About the position

The Virtual Special Education Social Worker at Michigan Online School (MOS) plays a crucial role in supporting positive student behaviors and facilitating successful learning experiences for students with emotional needs. This position involves conducting functional assessments, developing behavior support plans, and providing training to staff to implement these plans effectively. The role requires collaboration with grade level teams and other support staff to promote prosocial skill development and ensure compliance with educational policies and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with school grade level teams and other wrap-around supports to support positive student behaviors.
  • Conduct Functional Assessments incorporating multiple data sources, including formal and informal observations.
  • Develop Behavior Support Plans based on positive behavioral supports and ethical, proactive approaches.
  • Track the effectiveness of behavior support plans through behavioral data analysis and make necessary adjustments.
  • Provide training and modeling to staff for effective implementation of behavior support plans and instructional strategies.
  • Promote student prosocial skill development through group instruction and individualized supports.
  • Provide timely and accurate documentation in compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Limited License Master's Social Worker with full or temporary School Social Work approval by the State of Michigan.
  • Prior experience in developing functional assessments and behavior intervention plans.
  • Strong knowledge of community resources for individuals with emotional needs.
  • Ability to identify barriers to student growth and analyze complex situations for effective outcomes.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, families, and other agencies.
  • Employment experience supporting students in a virtual setting preferred.
  • Proficient in writing reports and maintaining records.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Ability to communicate under stressful conditions.
  • Effective organizational skills with the ability to perform multi-tasks.
  • Strong sense of integrity and a team player attitude.
  • Ability to work in a diverse educational community setting.
  • Satisfactory completion of state-required criminal history check.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
