About the position

The primary purpose of this position is to work with students identified as English Learners (EL) in campuses serving Vietnamese students. The role involves providing students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. The educator will enable students to develop competencies and skills necessary to function successfully in society.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement plans for the curriculum program assigned and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodation for English learners.
  • Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media, consistent with the needs and capabilities of the student groups involved.
  • Assess student learning and use results to plan instructional activities.
  • Work cooperatively with classroom teachers to modify curricula as needed to serve English learners.
  • Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods in accordance with district requirements.
  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits of study.
  • Assess the achievement of students on a regular basis through formal and informal testing and provide progress reports as required.
  • Travel from campus to campus within the district to serve students.
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Participate in the district staff development program.
  • Demonstrate interest and initiative in professional improvement.
  • Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
  • Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and district policies for classroom teachers.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings.
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Compile, maintain and file all reports, records and documents required.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university.
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate, with required endorsements for subject/level assigned.
  • Must be Bilingual Vietnamese.
  • Knowledge of subjects assigned.
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
  • At least one year of student teaching or approved internship.
