About the position

The Vice President, Distribution Operations at FirstEnergy is a key executive role responsible for overseeing the safe and reliable delivery of electricity across the state's utility operations. This position focuses on ensuring operational excellence while managing budgets and achieving key performance indicators (KPIs). The role involves strategic planning, leadership of a large team, and engagement with various stakeholders to enhance customer experience and operational sustainability.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the safe production, delivery, and reliability of electricity.
  • Manage budgets, including capital and O&M, and achieve KPIs.
  • Develop strategic and long-term operational plans in collaboration with the State President.
  • Engage with public officials, industry leaders, and regulators to meet strategic objectives.
  • Foster a safety culture and promote safe behaviors among employees.
  • Establish relationships with peers, staff, and union leadership to enhance company culture.
  • Implement safety and environmental safeguards in compliance with regulations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve customer experience and system reliability.
  • Plan and monitor the performance of assigned directors, managers, and staff.
  • Develop and implement work plans to achieve organizational goals and objectives.

Requirements

  • Fifteen years of relevant work experience in leadership roles within utility operations.
  • Strong technical acumen and business skills.
  • Experience in distribution engineering, construction, and project management.
  • Preferred undergraduate degree; PE or MBA is a plus.
  • Knowledge of safety improvement efforts and industry practices.
  • Experience leading a geographically dispersed union workforce.
  • Understanding of federal, state, and local regulations affecting the utility industry.
  • Expertise in operational and capital expense budgeting.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with electric utility design and engineering practices.
  • Knowledge of reliability performance monitoring and contracting management practices.
  • Familiarity with rate making and tariffs.
