About the position

The Vice President of Commercial Banking is responsible for developing and managing a portfolio of new business relationships, focusing on commercial loans and deposit products. This role involves negotiating and underwriting loans, ensuring compliance with banking policies, and engaging in business development activities to establish a strong client base. The position requires collaboration with treasury partners and involves significant client interaction to promote bank products and services.

Responsibilities

  • Identify target markets for new business and develop a book of business from those relationships.
  • Negotiate, underwrite, and coordinate the closing of various loans in compliance with bank policies.
  • Develop business checking and deposit relationships with customers.
  • Compile and analyze market research data to recommend products and services.
  • Engage in business development activities and solicit new business.
  • Collaborate with treasury partners to ensure seamless client experiences.
  • Call and visit target customers to promote bank products and services.
  • Maintain a customer database including calls and results on new business relationships.
  • Interview prospective applicants and resolve questions regarding loan applications.
  • Perform pre-qualification assessments and analyze financial conditions and risks.
  • Gather necessary information to present financing requests to senior management or Loan Committee.
  • Coordinate processing of approved loans and ensure compliance with agreements and policies.
  • Maintain knowledge of financial industry status and trends.
  • Represent the bank in community functions to enhance its image and develop business.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university.
  • Five or more years of related experience in lending and financial services.
  • Basic lending background including negotiating, underwriting, and closing various loans.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of banking compliance regulations and operational policies.
  • Experience in financial statement and tax return analysis.
  • Knowledge of bank lending procedures and products.
  • Exceptional analytical skills and relationship management expertise.
  • Intermediate skills in word processing and spreadsheet software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel).
  • Exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in community reinvestment functions.
  • Knowledge of SBA loans and commercial building financing.
