About The Position

Labcorp is seeking a Veterinary Technician to join our team in Madison, WI! This role supports the Veterinarian by performing various animal care procedures, including radiographs, sample collection, routine animal care, physical exams, monitoring animal health, and other veterinary laboratory procedures. The position also involves surgical requirements (non-surgery suite) and ensuring animal care complies with regulatory guidelines and ethical standards. The Veterinary Technician will interpret study protocols, apply good research practices (GxP), review documentation for QA audit requirements, and maintain client confidentiality. Utilization of computer software for study activities is also a key component of this role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Life Sciences field (e.g., Biology, Wildlife, Pre-veterinary, Zoology, Genetics, Environmental Biology, Animal Science, or related discipline), OR an Associate degree in Laboratory Animal Technology or Veterinary Technology, OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and 6 months or more of hands-on experience in Life Sciences (such as biology, chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, genetics, or animal science) that provides the knowledge and skills required for the role.

Nice To Haves

  • 6 months or more experience in an animal related field.
  • CVT - Certified Veterinary Technician.
  • 6 months or more experience in a vivarium setting with familiarity in animal welfare standards (IACUC, AAALAC, or similar guidelines).

Responsibilities

  • Perform radiographs, collect blood and fecal samples.
  • Conduct routine animal care procedures such as dog dentals, physical exams, and monitoring animal health.
  • Perform other veterinary laboratory procedures as well as surgical requirements (non-surgery suite).
  • Ensure animal care complies with regulatory guidelines and ethical standards.
  • Perform animal husbandry duties as needed.
  • Report and assist in resolving animal care concerns.
  • Interpret and follow basic study protocols.
  • Apply good research practices (GxP) principles.
  • Review documentation and understand QA audit requirements.
  • Maintain client confidentiality.
  • Utilize computer software for study activities.
  • Conduct study procedures per protocol, SOPs, and regulations.
  • Learn and perform medicant administration, physical exams, dosing, sample collection, and restraint techniques.
  • Learn and assist with euthanasia methods, surgical prep, anesthesia, and surgical procedures.
  • Manage time and resources effectively.
  • Support other departments with study-related tasks (e.g., restraint, blood collection).
  • Gain knowledge of ACUA and IACUC activities.
  • Build positive relationships with veterinary staff and other teams.
  • Participate in process improvement projects as needed.
