About The Position

The Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine of Rowan University (SSVM) is seeking skilled Diagnostic Imaging Veterinary Assistants and Technicians to join its new veterinary program and teaching hospital. This state-of-the-art facility is designed to accommodate multiple specialty departments and aims to provide excellent client and patient care while training competent, confident graduates ready for practice. The hospital is located 1.5 miles from the main Glassboro campus. Requirements

  • Has a minimum of 2 years’ experience as an imaging or radiology veterinary technician
  • Has previous experience running advanced diagnostic imaging machines (MRI/CT/Digital Radiography, etc.)
  • Experience with radiographic principles (collimation, MA, KVP, exposure time).
  • Knowledge of contrast agents, contraindications, and side effects.
  • Understands medical terminology, medications, calculations, and common procedures.
  • Available for future on-call rotation (required)
  • Strong communication, organizational, and teaching skills.
  • Adaptable to a fast-growing and developing workplace.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US, and the university will not sponsor an applicant for a work visa for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Perform digital radiographs and assist with running advanced imaging modalities such as Ultrasound, CT and MRI procedures under the supervision of a licensed veterinarian.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and proper use of radiographic equipment in regard to collimation, MA, Time and KVP.
  • Demonstrate the basic knowledge of radiation physics with the ability to teach Veterinary Students the basic principles.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the Radiology Information System (RIS) for patient examination ordering, client charges, reporting, scheduling and patient flow through the Diagnostic Service.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) for storage of all Diagnostic Imaging Studies.
  • Prepare and position small animals and exotic animals for imaging using safe restraint techniques.
  • Administer sedation and monitor patients during procedures.
  • Demonstrate the ability to produce quality imaging in an advanced imaging modality with a high level of understanding of the basic operations of that equipment.
  • Operate and maintain imaging equipment; troubleshoot issues as needed.
  • Assist with fluoroscopic procedures (e.g., dynamic trachea evaluations, barium studies, myelograms, cystograms, and urethrograms).
  • Maintain accurate records.
  • Enforce and demonstrate radiation safety protocols and proper shielding with lead attire and monitoring with film badges.
  • Train and mentor staff under the guidance of the radiologist.
  • Collaborate with veterinarians and technicians to ensure efficient workflow and patient care.
