About the position

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Veterinary Assistant to join our team at Hometown Pet Vet. The ideal candidate will have a passion for animal care and a solid understanding of animal physiology and anatomy. This role involves supporting veterinarians in providing high-quality care to our patients, assisting with medical procedures, and ensuring the smooth operation of the veterinary clinic.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians during examinations and surgical procedures, ensuring a sterile environment through proper aseptic techniques.
• Provide care for animals, including feeding, bathing, and exercising as needed.
• Administer medications and treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
• Maintain accurate medical records and assist with front desk duties, including scheduling appointments and managing patient files.
• Monitor the health and behavior of animals in the clinic, reporting any concerns to the veterinarian promptly.
• Educate pet owners on proper animal care and post-treatment instructions.
• Ensure cleanliness of the clinic by performing routine cleaning tasks and maintaining equipment.
• Support equine care when necessary, demonstrating knowledge of specific needs associated with larger animals.

Requirements

• Previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant or in a veterinary clinic setting is preferred but not required.
• Knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal anatomy, and physiology is essential for effective communication within the team.
• Familiarity with medication administration protocols is advantageous.
• Strong interpersonal skills to interact positively with clients and their pets are crucial for this role.
• A willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment while demonstrating compassion for animals is highly valued.
