About the position

The Vendor Relations Specialist is responsible for managing relationships and contract oversight with vendors that provide waste hauling, disposal, and recycling services. This role involves evaluating service quality, resolving disputes, and ensuring effective communication with vendors to maintain operational efficiency. The specialist will also contribute to developing a national supplier platform for procurement needs.

Responsibilities

  • Manages partners and service providers for service-related issues and disputes including billing and rebate disputes.
  • Maintains relationships and reviews the quality of service received from suppliers to ensure standards and expectations are met.
  • Ensures that vendor information, documentation, and systems are current.
  • Collaborates with Operations, Finance, and other Management teams to ensure successful delivery of services in the marketplace.
  • Monitors vendor performance against contractual service level agreements and resolves issues.
  • Develops and monitors metrics to evaluate vendor performance.
  • Develops an understanding of vendor and client requirements and the Procurement Department's role in exceeding client expectations.
  • Develops a working knowledge of the company's operational and general business applications including Operations, Customer Service, Accounting, and Vendor Relations.
  • Ensures that vendor's Certificate of Insurance (COI) is current.
  • Maintains proper documentation, contracts, and data reporting of all Procurement related activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent professional experience.
  • 3-5 years procurement experience preferred.
  • Experience managing vendors and 3rd party performance.
  • Experience in the waste industry (preferred but not required).
  • Experience in developing bidding documents and conducting Request for Proposal (RFP) processes.
  • Experience in managing regional and national programs.
  • Strong negotiation skills and decision-making experience.
  • Detail-oriented with adaptability and a strong sense of urgency.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of basic contracting documents.
  • Ability to analyze large amounts of data and summarize into comprehensive reports.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office with advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
