Here, you will be responsible for drawing blood and IV placements at UChicago Medicine under minimal supervision. The phlebotomist will verify orders, generate specimen collection labels, and confirm patient identity prior to specimen collection. This department is the Nursing Inpatient Phlebotomy department. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area. The Vascular Access/Phlebotomy Technician is responsible for drawing blood from inpatients and starting peripheral IVs as needed on patients in various locations under minimal supervision. Includes patient and order verification and generation of specimen collection labels. Essential Job Functions include performing venipuncture and skin punctures with expertise and in a customer service-oriented fashion, adhering to all established policies and procedures. You will properly package specimens for delivery through the pneumatic tube system, stock blood drawing carts, and keep the cart and area clean, safe, and sterile. The use of a handheld system to identify patients, indicate specimen collection status, and generate specimen collection labels is also required. You will plan the delivery of IV access for patients in coordination with the healthcare team and perform other duties as assigned.
