About The Position

The Utility Technician in our Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) works in Environmental Services facility's physical infrastructure, equipment, and grounds. The Utility Technician ensures residents, staff, and visitors a safe, functional, and comfortable environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a healthcare or long-term care setting.
  • Problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Physical stamina and the ability to perform tasks that may involve lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills to interact with residents, families, and staff.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high cleanliness, safety, and functionality standards.
  • Basic computer skills for ordering and inventory upkeep.
  • Must possess and maintain any and all necessary active and unencumbered certifications, degrees, or licenses in the necessary state, to the extent the position requires such certifications, degrees, or licenses.
  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to read, speak, and understandably write the English language.
  • Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Must function independently, and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
  • Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which include a medical and physical examination if the position requires.
  • Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and, at times, hostile people within the facility.
  • Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 50 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs related to resident room cleanliness and facility cleanliness including but not limited to privacy curtains and general cleaning.
  • Respond promptly to work orders and address issues to minimize disruptions and ensure resident safety.
  • Inspect, clean, and maintain wheel chair, geri-chair and other resident mobility equipment as directed in the facility.
  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks and keep accurate maintenance records.
  • Coordinate with external vendors for specialized equipment maintenance and repairs.
  • Regularly maintain quality assurance documentation of rounds, privacy curtains replaced, wheelchairs cleaned/repaired, geri-chairs cleaned/ repaired, etc.
  • Assist with regulatory inspections and ensure compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
  • Maintain an inventory of wheelchairs and wheelchair parts, tools, par levels.
  • Monitor stock levels and submit requisitions for replenishment as needed.
  • Keep an organized and secure maintenance storage area.
  • Respond promptly to resident requests and address concerns professionally and courteously.
  • Ensure resident comfort and safety during performance of job duties.
  • Communicate schedules and disruptions effectively to Administrator or designee.
  • Coordinate with other departments and staff members to ensure efficient and effective operations.
  • Communicate maintenance-related information to the appropriate personnel.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost-saving measures in maintenance operations.
  • Attend training sessions and workshops to enhance knowledge and skills as instructed by administrator.
  • Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of the residents served.
  • Must be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of teamwork and team concept.
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
  • Must be able to relate information concerning a resident’s condition.
  • Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
  • May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergencies.
