About the position

The Utility Systems Technician III position is a full-time, permanent role within the Department of Public Works Bureau of Utility Operations. This advanced technical position focuses on the maintenance, inspection, evaluation, testing, monitoring, modeling, and rehabilitation of water distribution and wastewater collection systems. The role requires a combination of fieldwork and analytical skills, with a significant degree of independence in task execution, while also providing supervisory oversight for complex assignments.

Responsibilities

• Schedules and conducts a variety of tasks related to water and sewer infrastructure maintenance and rehabilitation.
• Schedules and conducts field tests to determine the performance of water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
• Trains subordinate technicians and laborers in field techniques.
• Assists managerial and engineering staff by performing contract inspections, field investigations, system testing, and flow-monitoring.
• Selects suitable sites for field tests and measurements.
• Performs computations of flow monitoring data or field survey data, prepares reports, and reviews plans and specifications.

Requirements

• Graduation from high school, supplemented by at least two years of course work in mathematics.
• Four or more years' experience in water distribution and wastewater collection systems evaluation survey work.
• Two or more years' lead worker experience.
• Valid non-commercial Class C motor vehicle operator's license.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with sanitary sewer flow monitoring.
• Experience with asset management systems such as VUEWorks or related work order systems.
• A Class II Wastewater Collection Systems license.
• Experience with Geocortex or related GIS software.
