About The Position

The Utilities Technician is responsible for performing preventive and corrective maintenance on various facility systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general repairs. This role also involves managing the Utility Reliability Program, conducting inspections, coordinating with third-party contractors, and analyzing data to ensure critical utility assets are maintained and operational. The position requires a proactive approach to facility upkeep, including both interior and exterior maintenance, and responding to employee repair requests.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven experience (2+ years) in facilities maintenance or a related field.
  • Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general handyman skills.
  • Strong mechanical/electrical aptitude.
  • Able to read and interpret vendor and site manuals and drawings.
  • Valid Driver's License.

  • Vocational training or certification in HVAC, plumbing, or electrical work.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on HVAC systems, including filter changes, thermostat checks, and duct inspections.
  • Inspect and troubleshoot HVAC issues, coordinating with contractors for complex repairs or upgrades.
  • Perform minor electrical work, including replacing light fixtures, outlets, and switches, and troubleshooting basic issues.
  • Conduct basic plumbing repairs such as fixing leaks, unclogging drains, and maintaining restroom fixtures, escalating major issues to licensed plumbers.
  • Complete cosmetic repairs (e.g., drywall patching, painting, minor carpentry) to maintain a professional facility appearance.
  • Respond to and resolve minor repair requests from employees in a timely and effective manner.
  • Perform seasonal tasks such as putting down ice melt and other weather-related duties.
  • Inspect and maintain outdoor facilities, including walkways, signage, and lighting; perform basic repairs or coordinate with vendors.
  • Manage day-to-day tasks of the Utility Reliability Program, focusing on maintaining critical utility assets.
  • Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on utility systems (e.g., boilers, chillers, air compressors).
  • Coordinate with third-party contractors during utility maintenance activities to ensure compliance with internal reliability standards.
  • Provide detailed feedback to the Reliability Department from daily rounds and system observations.
  • Record readings and input data into computer software programs.
