About the position

As an intern in EY's Assurance - Technology Risk practice, you will gain invaluable experience that serves as a launch pad for your career. This internship is designed for students who are pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Accounting, Information Systems, or a related discipline. You will have the opportunity to work with a diverse range of clients across various industries, including Advanced Manufacturing & Mobility, Power & Utilities, Health Sciences & Wellness, Consumer, Technology, Media & Entertainment, and Telecommunications. Interns can also choose to focus on the Government & Public Sector (GPS) or Financial Services Organization (FSO) practices, providing a unique opportunity to work with federal clients or leading financial institutions respectively. In this role, you will assess whether clients are employing proper information systems, resources, and controls to meet professional audit standards. You will collaborate with your engagement team to understand and document clients' business and IT processes, risks, and controls. Your responsibilities will include performing control documentation and testing, creating flowcharts and process documentation, and managing project progress while keeping stakeholders informed. This internship will not only enhance your technical skills but also provide you with a deep understanding of the inner workings of business, preparing you for a successful career in IT audit. The internship will require you to work in excess of standard hours occasionally, and travel may be necessary based on client and project needs. You will also have the chance to pursue relevant certifications such as CPA or CISA, further enhancing your professional qualifications. The experience gained during this internship will be foundational for your long-term career, whether you choose to stay with EY or pursue opportunities elsewhere.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and document clients' business and IT processes, risks, and controls.
  • Perform control documentation and testing through review of client evidence and interviews.
  • Collaborate with members of the engagement team to plan the engagement and develop work program timelines, assign responsibilities for key tasks and prepare other planning documents.
  • Monitor and manage project progress and risks, ensuring key stakeholders are kept informed about progress and expected outcomes.
  • Create flowcharts and process documentation for financially relevant processes.
  • Perform common work assignments and projects including System and Organization Controls (SOC) reports, third-party risk assessments, IT risk and control framework design, and assessments of automated and IT General Controls (ITGCs) as part of SOX and Financial Statement audits.

Requirements

  • Have or be working toward an undergraduate or graduate degree in Accounting, Information Systems or a related discipline.
  • Desire to work in IT audit as demonstrated by relevant coursework, interest, or internship experience.
  • Work may be required in excess of standard hours.
  • Candidates interested in the Government & Public Sector focus must have U.S. citizenship and be able to obtain and maintain a secret clearance or higher.
